Subtitled "The sea life of South East England", this set of two DVDs gives an excellent overview of marine life around the coast from the Thames estuary to the Solent. It provides a wealth of fascinating information illustrated by excellent underwater video and superbly presented by Lisa Browning. Disc 1 holds a 40 minute film taking you under the sea to encounter the plants and animals that inhabit the mud, sand, gravel, rocky reefs and shipwrecks off the South East coast. It also discusses other issues that bear upon the condition of our coastal waters, such as dredging, fishing and the part we can each play in its protection. There are many endearing scenes. Watch out for the Little Cuttle hiding itself in the sand by sweeping sand over its head with its tiny tentacles. Disc 2 provides a "sea life identification kit" in various formats that can be accessed via the television and the computer. The DVD is designed to be interactive making discovery of the wealth of information provided both manageable and fun. You can print off preformated prompt cards with colour photos and key data. It also includes a range of other resources that will be of value to the diver and others interested in our natural heritage. The DVD is produced in cooperation with several agencies including English Nature, SCOPAC (Standing Conference on problems associateed with the Coastline), Project Aware (PADI), DEFRA's Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, The Crown Estate Marine Stewardship Fund and the Environment Agency.
